(Betsy was my wife, Marie's, first cousin.)
Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Cain, was the daughteror Andrew Thomas and Rose M. (nee Kane) Cain. She was born April 15, 1945, and passed away on Sunday, July 12th, 2009 of unknown causes.
The family, had lost touch with Besty in recent years and we learned of her passing while doing research., finding an entry on-line at www.upenn.edu/gazette/0310/obits.html and confirmed through ancestry.com's Social Security Death Listings. We will update her information as soon as it is available.
Betsy graduated University of Pennsylvania in 1966 and had been a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Her early career was as a foreign service attache, serving at several overseas US embassies. She is pictured here at Christmastime 1968 and she will be remembered with love.

Edith Young O’Shields Biddix, age 101, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Burke Hospice Palliative Care in Valdese, N.C. Mrs. Biddix was born February 28, 1909 in Yancey County and was a daughter of the late Alfonzo Young and Mary Alice Hoyle Young. She was a homemaker, loving

mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Preceding Mrs. Biddix in death was her first husband Roy O’Shields and her second husband, Pat Biddix; granddaughter, Carol Michelle Rumfelt and two brothers, Julius Young and Floyd Young. Surviving Mrs. Biddix is one daughter, Joyce Creech and husband Oscar of Marion; two grandchildren: Walt Rumfelt and wife Stacy of Shelby and Mitchell Rumfelt of Asheville; one great grandchild, Luke Rumfelt; six step grandchildren, thirteen step great grandchildren and four step great-great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Brian Bird and Rev. Eddie Kirkpatrick officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Burke County, P.O. Box 1029, Valdese, N. C. 28690.
KATTIE MAE OGLE BIDDIX

who was the great-grandson of William Abraham "Little Will" Biddix, 1861-1942,
great-grandfather of my brother-in-law, Grant Biddix.)
Kattie Mae Ogle Biddix, age 76, of Marion, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Autumn Care of Marion. A native of McDowell County, Kattie was born June 19, 1933. She was a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar Biddix, an infant daughter, Rose Marie and a brother Ernest Ogle. Left to cherish Kattie’s memory are six children: Emily Henderson and husband Johnny of Rutherfordton, Gay Queen and husband Paul Pendley, Gloria Hall and husband Joe of Marion, Susan Vess of Old Fort, Dudley Biddix and wife Lorraine of Marion and Thelma Bingham and husband David of Statesville; sister, Minnie Stone of Asheville; 20 grandchildren and a large number of great and great-great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Sunday, January 24, 2010 in Westmoreland Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Charles Dicks officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Turkey Cove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Red Cross, McDowell Chapter, 39 N. Garden St., Marion, N. C. 28752.
